How to file a declaration

If you are filing a bpm declaration, you will have to deal with:

  1. Verification or inspection at a RDW (Dutch Road Transport Directorate) inspection centre (only available in Dutch) You have the passenger car, delivery van or motorcycle verified or inspected by the RDW.
    - Do you wish to introduce a foreign-registered car or motorcycle from an EU country into the Netherlands and obtain a Dutch vehicle registration certificate? If so, you will only have to have the details of the vehicle verified at a RDW inspection centre. This also applies to cars or motorcycles from Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein or Iceland. A technical inspection will not be required. If all the details of the car or motorcycle are in accordance with the corresponding documents, your car will be entered in the vehicle registration system.
    - Do you wish to import a foreign-registered car or motorcycle from a non-EU country into the Netherlands and obtain a Dutch vehicle registration certificate? If so, the car or motorcycle will have to be inspected at a RDW inspection centre. The purpose of this inspection is to determine whether the car or motorcycle satisfies the technical requirements applicable in the Netherlands and Europe with regard to construction, layout and safety.
  2. Filing a declaration at a bpm declaration point
In the case of a passenger car or motorcycle, you will have to file a declaration at a bpm declaration point. Once the declaration has been filed, the Tax and Customs Administration will send you a payment notice. You pay the bpm after receiving the payment notice. Do you not meet the conditions of the entrepreneurs scheme? Then you will also have to file a declaration for a delivery van and pay bpm. The Tax and Customs Administration will contact with you about this. You may also make the declaration yourself, by downloading the declaration form and the accompanying calculation form and explanatory notes. (only available in Dutch). If you are an entrepreneur and meet the conditions of the entrepreneurs scheme, you will not have to file a declaration for a delivery van. You will, however, need to have the delivery van registered at a bpm declaration point.
